NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Spring Hill College men's basketball team lost a non-conference contest by the score of 47-43 at the Dillard University Bleu Devils on Tuesday night at Dent Gymnasium.
Dillard (2-1) jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead just three minutes into the game and held a 16-9 advantage halfway through the first half. By the intermission, the Bleu Devils led the Badgers 25-18.
By the 13 minute mark, the Badgers trailed by 15 points at 37-22, but rallied to cut the deficit down to 37-29 with 9:43 showing on the clock and had reeled in the Bleu Devils to a 39-35 score with 5:12 remaining. A Robert Gipson 3-point bucket at 3:30 made it just a 41-38 Dillard lead and then a layup by Dejan Stefanovic cut it down to two points.
The teams then traded 3-point baskets making it 45-43 in favor of Dillard with 57.5 seconds in the contest. The SHC defense forced Dillard into a shot clock violation at 19.9 seconds, but a Dillard steal of a Badger entry pass with 1 second remaining sealed the game for the home team.
Spring Hill was led by Jerrett Calhoun with 10 points.
Dillard's Jerrain Jenkins and Houston Chatham each scored 11 points as the Bleu Devils shot 46.3% (19-41) from the field including 20% (2-10) in 3-point attempts.
The Badgers shot 34.8% (16-46) from the floor including 26.3% (5-19) from behind the arc. SHC also lost the war under the boards 28-26 and turned the ball over 20 times against 11 Bleu Devil steals. Dillard committed 22 turnovers as the Badgers stole the ball 16 times.
The Badgers (0-6) will next visit the USA Mitchell Center on Monday at 7:05 p.m. to play NCAA Division 1 foe the University of South Alabama Jaguars (4-2) in an exhibition game.
