The Spring Hill College Department of Athletics has named basketball players Wesley Pietri and Elissa VandeWaa as its USA ROTC-Spring Hill College Student-Athletes of the Week for their efforts on the hardwoods during the week of December 2-8, 2013.
Pietri, a sophomore guard from St. Paul's Episcopal School in Mobile, scored 12 points versus Stillman College on Friday night. For the year he is averaging 7.9 points and 1.9 rebounds per game while shooting 38% (19-50) from the field and 36.8% (7-19) from 3-point distance.
VandeWaa, a junior guard from Spanish Fort, Ala., led the Badgers in scoring against both Stillman College and Southern University with 14 and 12 points respectively. For the season, she is averaging 7.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while handing out 29 assists with 14 steals in eight games.
In recognition of this honor, each week's winners of USA ROTC-Spring Hill College Student-Athletes of the Week award will receive a T-shirt, water bottle and handy gym bag compliments of the University of South Alabama ROTC.
