TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Spring Hill College men's basketball team lost a non-conference contest by the score of 90-71 versus future Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) rival the Stillman College Tigers on Saturday night at Birthright Alumni Hall.
Stillman (5-6) led the Badgers by a 39-33 score at the intermission and took as much as an 11-point lead just 30 seconds into the 2nd half, but Spring Hill rallied to cut the deficit to just four points at 50-46 with 16 minutes to go in the game.
Four minutes later, the Tigers had regained their composure enough to retake an 11-point advantage 65-54 and never trailed by less than double digits for the remainder of the contest, holding as much as a 21-point lead with three minutes left on the clock.
Robert Drummond led four Badgers in double digit scoring with 14 points while Wesley Pietri added 13 points, Jarrett Calhoun scored 11 points and Frederick Gatson had 10 points.
The Badgers shot 42.6% (29-68) from the floor including 23.5% (4-17) in 3-point attempts on the night. Spring Hill lost the rebounding battle by a margin of 44 to 40, but suffered just 13 turnovers against seven steals by the Tigers. SHC also hurt their own cause with a 9-of-23 (39.1%) night at the free throw line.
Jeffrey Wherry and Markeith Madison each scored 21 points for Stillman while Douglas Anderson had 10 rebounds. Stillman shot 48.5% (32-66) from the field including 40% (10-25) from 3-point distance. Stillman also lost 11 turnovers versus five Badger steals.
The Badgers (0-8) will next face non-conference foe the Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Knights (6-4) on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
