The Spring Hill College women's basketball team lost to the University of Mobile Lady Rams by a score of 81-62 in a Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) game at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Thursday evening.
The Lady Rams (12-3, 6-1 SSAC West) held a 42-23 advantage at halftime, but the Badgers rallied to make it a 9-point game with seven minutes to play at 58-49. From there, Deonica McCormick of Mobile took the game over as the Lady Rams rebuilt a 23-point cushion behind McCormick's 10 points in less than five minutes. McCormick closed the night with 17 points.
Elissa VandeWaa and Amee Smith each scored 12 points to lead the Badgers while Sha Sha Buchanan added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Smith also accounted for 10 rebounds for her first career double-double night. Spring Hill shot 37.3% (22-59) overall and 33.3% (3-9) from 3-point distance. The Badgers turned the ball over 16 times against eight steals by Mobile.
The Lady Rams were led by Molly Speed's 21 points as four Mobile players reached double digits in scoring. Jameica Hudson also scored 14 points with 11 rebounds for the Lady Rams. Mobile shot 42.9% (33-77) from the field including 38.9% (7-18) from long distance while suffering just eight turnovers versus six steals by the Badgers. Mobile also took the edge under the boards by a 49 to 44 margin in rebounding.
The Badgers (4-11, 1-6 SSAC West) will next host the Belhaven University Lady Blazers (8-9, 2-5 SSAC West) at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Saturday at 2 p.m.
