McKENZIE, Tenn. – The Spring Hill College women's basketball team came up on the short end of a 96-69 loss to the 16th-ranked Bethel University Lady Wildcats in a Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) West Division contest at Crisp Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Bethel opened up an early 14-9 advantage with 12 minutes to play in the 1st half and took a 42-31 cushion into the halftime intermission.
The Badgers deficit later grew to 58-41 by the 14 minute mark of the 2nd half and 91-66 with just three minutes left to play.
Elissa VandeWaa dropped in 13 points while Sha Sha Buchanan scored 12 points and Corrine Missi added 10 points to the Badger cause. SHC shot 33.8% (23-68) from the floor and 26.1% (6-23) from 3-point distance. The Badgers hurt themselves with 16 turnovers against five steals by Bethel. Spring Hill also was out-rebounded by the Lady Wildcats in a 48 to 37 tally.
The Lady Wildcats (14-6, 7-3 SSAC West) were led by Porsha Harris with 17 points and 12 rebounds as Bethel saw four players reach double-digits in scoring. The Wildcats shot 47.4% (36-76) from the field including 33.3% (8-24) from long distance while suffering 12 turnovers against just two steals by the Badgers.
The Badgers (5-13, 2-8 SSAC West) will next host the Loyola University (La.) Wolf Pack (13-7, 7-3 SSAC West) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
