McKENZIE, Tenn. – The Spring Hill College men's basketball team lost an 82-74 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) West Division decision to the Bethel University Wildcats on Saturday evening at Crisp Arena.

A close-fought 1st half saw Spring Hill take an early 24-20 lead on the Wildcats (13-7, 4-5 SSAC West), but Bethel rallied to tie the game at 31-31. A 3-point bucket by SHC with just 3 seconds showing put the Badgers up by one point 36-35 at the intermission.

Senior forward Alex Looney put SHC up 39-35 with a 3-pointer right out of the locker room and senior guard Robert Gipson made it a 44-37 game under a minute later with another trey.

The Wildcats regrouped to tie the game at 46-46 but a Frederick Gatson basket gave SHC a 49-48 lead with 13 minutes to play.

With the game knotted up at 53-53, Gipson converted on 1-of-2 free throws with 9:48      remaining and then tipped in a rebound of a Gatson miss to make it 56-53 in favor of the Badgers.

Gatson would later feed Robert Drummond for an inside layup that tied the game at 62-62 with just over five minutes on the clock. A Gatson 3-pointer would put SHC up 65-62 at 4:27 and Jarrett Calhoun expanded the lead to four points with two free throws.

Bethel once again rallied to tie the game with two free throws at 68-68 with 3:14 remaining, but Looney converted on a hoop-and-the-harm for a 71-68 Badger lead with less than three minutes to play. A Bethel trey and layup put the home team up 73-71 at 1:18 and Cole Nelson of the Wildcats made two free throws to make it 75-71.

SHC cut it to 75-73, but Gary Pollard's 3-pointer for Bethel at 33.1 proved to be the final dagger for the Badgers.

The Badgers shot 42.9% (24-56) from the floor including 36.8% (7-19) from 3-point distance. The Badgers committed 18 turnovers against 14 steals by the Wildcats.
