The Spring Hill College women's basketball team accepted a 69-58 loss to the 25th-ranked University of Mobile Lady Rams at Pharr Gymnasium on Saturday evening.
The Lady Rams (16-6, 10-4 SSAC West) built a quick 8-2 lead before the Badgers responded to tie the game at 10-10. Mobile stretched out a 32-22 lead with 1½ minutes before the intermission and took a 32-24 cushion into halftime.
Mobile held a 10-point lead for most of the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half, but the Badgers rallied to cut the score to just four points at 50-46 with 6½ minutes to play. Back-to-back layups by freshman forward Corinne Missi tied the game at 50-50, but Mobile picked up the pace of their offense out of a timeout and rebuilt a 57-52 advantage and kept building from there.
Senior forward Sha Sha Buchanan led Spring Hill with 17 points while freshman forward Camry Johnson collected a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. SHC shot 32.1% (17-53) overall from the floor and 25% (2-8) from 3-point distance. The Badgers turned the ball over 20 times against nine steals by Mobile, but out-rebounded by the Lady Rams 47-33.
Mobile was led by Deonica McCormick with 28 points and Molly Speed with 11 points. UMobile shot 40% (24-60) from the field including 25% (1-4) from behind the arc. The Lady Rams committed just nine turnovers against two steals by Spring Hill.
The Badgers (5-17, 2-12 SSAC West) will visit Jackson, Miss., on Thursday night for an SSAC match at the Belhaven University Lady Blazers (11-13, 5-9 SSAC West) beginning at 5:30 p.m.
