The Spring Hill College women's basketball team lost an 81-69 conference outcome versus the Martin Methodist College RedHawks at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.
The RedHawks (21-7, 13-5 SSAC West) trailed by as much as 10 points at 14-4 in the 1st half, but used a 14-2 run over the period's final five minutes to take a 41-29 lead into halftime. SHC fell down by as much as 17 points at 63-46 with just under 10 minutes to play in the game and twice cut the lead down to eight points in the final five minutes.
Senior forward Sha Sha Buchanan paced SHC with 20 points and senior guard Tempey Hamilton added 15 points and 11 rebounds. SHC shot 38.4% (28-73) overall from the floor and 22.2% (4-18) from 3-point distance. The Badgers turned the ball over 16 times against three steals by Martin Methodist, but out-rebounded the RedHawks by a 53-43 margin.
MMC was led by guard Tyffani Fenwick with 16 points as four RedHawk starters reached the double-digit scoring mark. Martin Methodist shot 38.5% (30-78) from the field including 36.4% (4-11) from behind the 3-point arc. MMC committed 13 turnovers against three steals by Spring Hill.
The Badgers (5-21, 2-16 SSAC West) will travel to Blue Mountain College in Mississippi to face the Toppers (10-14, 7-11 SSAC West) on Thursday 5:30 p.m.
