BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The Spring Hill College baseball team split a Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) doubleheader at Blue Mountain College dropping the first contest 9-4 before rebounding for a 7-6 win in the second game on Thursday afternoon.
In the first game, Badger right fielder Taylor Eads enjoyed a 3-for-4 day while first baseman Kyle Freeman and second baseman Brian Sims both collected a pair of hits. Wesley Parrish (1-3) took the loss for Spring Hill in five innings of work.
The nightcap saw the Badgers trailing 6-3 in the 6th inning when Eads crushed a Grand Slam to put Spring Hill up by 7-6 score that they never relinquished. Paul Sullivan (2-1) was the winner while Brady Hitt kept the Toppers at bay from two innings and Keller Douglas earned his fifth save of the year.
With the save, Douglas tied his personal single single-season record established in 2012 and now trails only Joe Stutz for the Badgers' single season record of seven saves set in 1989.
Blake Toscano rapped out three hits at the plate in Game 2 while Sims and centerfielder Mykol Sostarich each added a pair of safeties each.
Spring Hill (14-5, 5-3 SSAC) will remain at the Blue Mountain (2-10, 1-7 SSAC) on Friday to wrap up this three-game series with a single game at noon.
