The Spring Hill College baseball team dropped a 3-1 non-conference decision to the University of Mobile by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Mike Jacobs Field.
Mobile (13-8) took a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning when first baseman Braxton Hamil singled in a run and the next batter up Dakota Spikes lifted a sacrifice fly to left field off Badger starter Hunter Nowak (3-1).
The Badgers answered back with a run in the top of the 3rd inning when right field Taylor Eads brought in third baseman Blake Toscano, who had led off the frame with a double to the gap in right-centerfield, via a single through the left side of infield.
An unearned run by the Rams scored off a dropped fly ball in the Badger outfield made it 3-1 in the bottom of the 8th inning as Corey Hale came in to nail down the save for Mobile in the 9th inning.
Nowak took the loss in seven innings scattering six hits with five walks and a strikeout. Austin Curtis was the winner in relief for Mobile with three innings of work, a hit, a walks and three strikeouts.
Spring Hill (15-6, 6-3 SSAC) will host the No. 1 ranked Faulkner University Eagles (17-4, 5-1 SSAC) in a three-game conference series at historic Stan Galle Field beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. and wrapping up with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
