SLIDELL, La. – The Spring Hill College men's golf team finished with a 2nd place finish out of six teams at a rain-shortened the Loyola University (La.) Wolf Pack Invitational at Oak Harbor Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.
With Tuesday's round being rained out, the Badgers shot a combined team score of 598 (297, 301, +22) over the par-72, 6723-yard course in two rounds on Monday, finishing just four strokes behind the University of Mobile (303, 291, 594, +18).
Badger freshman Wesley Hunter out of St. Luke's Episcopal School in Mobile won the individual title over a field of 34 golfers with a -2 score of 142 (72, 70) while junior Jordan Portal of Miami, Fla., place in 4th position with scores of 72 and 75 for a +3 tally of 147.
Freshman Grant Luisi from Dallas, Texas, shot a +8 score of 152 (74, 78, 152) for 8th position and freshman Sheldon Statkewicz was 15th with a card that read 79, 78, 157, +13. Senior Philip Dugan of Lake Forest, Ill., shot a +21 165 (81, 84) and sophomore Cade Landeche of Luling, La., was in 29th place with a total of 166 strokes (83, 83, +22). Senior Spencer Lane of St. Louis, Mo., rounded out the Badger competitors in 32nd place with 170 total strokes (81, 89, +26).
Spring Hill will next compete on March 16-18 at the William Carey University Invitational at Canebrake Golf Course in Hattiesburg, Miss.
