WESTWEGO, La. – The Spring Hill College baseball team rallied to take a 5-1 victory over the Loyola University (La.) Wolf Pack in a Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) game at Segnette Field on Friday night.
Spring Hill fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the 2nd inning, but bounced back with three runs in the 5th inning highlighted by a two-run single to left field by senior second baseman Brian Sims. Badger right fielder Taylor Eads then lifted his second triple of the year with one out in the 6th inning and was brought in by a single up the middle by first baseman Kyle Freeman. Catcher Roy Moulder capped the inning with a double to left that plated Freeman as Spring Hill built a 5-1 advantage.
From there, Badger starter Wesley Parrish (2-4) took over and sat down the final 20 Wolf Pack batters for the complete game victory. Parrish struggled in his first three innings allowing two hits and a sacrifice fly with four walks, but got out of a bases-loaded-one-out jam in the 3rd inning via a strikeout and a grounder to the shortstop. The escape steeled his resolve and he finished the game with five total strikeouts.
Sims and Freeman each had two hits on the night as did SHC shortstop Brooks Bobinger and centerfielder Mykol Sostarich.
Daniel Posway (3-2) took the loss for Loyola in eight innings with 10 hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
Spring Hill (17-10, 8-5 SSAC) will wrap up this three-game series with Loyola (15-12, 5-5 SSAC) on Saturday with doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
