MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Spring Hill College starter Caroline Sagrera was named the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 17-23, 2014, for her no-hit performance versus Faulkner University on Tuesday and her one-hit effort versus William Woods University on Sunday afternoon.
Sagrera (16-2) pitched a no-hitter versus the Lady Eagles in the opening game of an SSAC doubleheader allowing just three walks and then entered the second game in the 3rd inning where she allowed no hits and no walks with a hit-batter. Versus William Woods, she pitched 15 shutout innings and gave up just two hits in the first game and only a walk and a single to right in the nightcap. She struck out 35 batters on the week.
The NAIA All-America right-hander from Baton Rouge, La., currently leads the NAIA in strikeouts with 185 in 123 innings pitched and holds a .460 ERA as opposing batters are hitting just .115 against her. Sagrera currently holds a streak of 29 consecutive innings without surrendering a run.
Spring Hill (20-5, 5-1 SSAC West) begins a conference road swing on Friday with a doubleheader at the Brewton-Parker College Lady Barons (18-14, 5-5 SSAC East) in Mount Vernon, Ga., beginning at 2 p.m.
