JACKSON, Miss. – The 7th-ranked Spring Hill College softball team split a conference doubleheader at the 14th-ranked Belhaven University Lady Blazers by winning the opening game 2-0 and falling in the second game 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

In the first game, Spring Hill took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning when shortstop Shea Blanchard scored off a bases-loaded wild pitch by BU reliever Jessica Paris and Badger centerfielder Taylor Webre made it a 2-0 game with a sacrifice fly to left field in the 6th inning that brought in designated player Lena Land.

Badger starter Caroline Sagrera (17-3) allowed the tying runs to reach base with two one-out walks in the bottom of the 7th inning but then got a strikeout and a grounder back to the circle to end the threat. Sagrera allowed four hits with seven walks and 11 strikeouts in the complete-game victory.

Katy Adair (8-4) of the Blazers lasted just two innings in the start with a hit, two walks and a strikeout while Paris pitched five innings with four hits three walks and three strikeouts.

Belhaven (26-7, 8-4 SSAC West) held a 4-0 lead after five innings in the nightcap and then withstood a 7th-inning Badger rally that put two runs across the plate as the Blazers held on for a 5-3 victory.

Giner Lonergan (10-1) of Belhaven out-dueled Sagrera in the second game as Sagrera gave up seven hits with a walk and six strikeouts and Lonergan surrendered just three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

At the plate, left fielder Jenna Charnock had two hits for SHC while Land collected two hits with two runs scored and Blanchard added a two-run homer in the 7th-inning of Game Two.  For the Blazers, designated hitter Victoria Sorrell had four hits and a solo home run, shortstop Emily Todd had two hits and three RBI while left fielder Dominique Corona collected two hits with a run driven in.

Spring Hill (21-6, 6-2 SSAC West) returns home for a conference doubleheader on Saturday versus the Faulkner University Lady Eagles (12-13, 4-6 SSAC West) at Murray Field beginning at 12 p.m.
