MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Spring Hill College baseball team won a marathon Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) game by a score of 6-5 in 12 innings at the Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks on Friday night at the AUM Baseball Complex.

The Badgers took a 3-0 lead over AUM (22-16, 10-9 SSAC) in the 2nd inning when designated hitter Ryan Stevens led off the frame with a homerun to left field and catcher Roy Moulder brought in first baseman Kyle Freeman with a single up the middle. Left fielder Austyn Jacques then plated courtesy runner Blake Toscano with a single through the top of the infield.

Spring Hill expanded the lead to 4-0 in the 3rd inning as left fielder Mykol Sostarich led off with a triple to center and later came home as the Warhawk infield threw away a grounder to 3rd base by Badger right fielder Taylor Eads.

AUM rebounded to tie the game with four unearned runs in the bottom of the 3rd  inning with first baseman Bryan Young providing the game-tying hit in the form of a two-out, two-run single to left-centerfield.

SHC shortstop Brooks Bobinger untied the game in the 6th inning with a two-out single to right-center that brought in third baseman Garrett Webb from 2nd base.

The Warhawks put a runner at 3rd base with one-out in the 8th inning, but Badger reliever Johnathan Billings put out the fire with two strikeouts to preserve the 5-4 advantage for Spring Hill. Designated hitter Michael Radoslovich of AUM, however, would put the game into extra innings with a one-out single to left field off SHC closer Keller Douglas (4-0) in the 9th inning that scored right fielder Brandon Pooler from 2nd base.

Spring Hill loaded the bases with two-outs in the 11th inning, but Richard Nason (4-5) of the Warhawks stopped the threat with strikeout. Douglas then put Pooler at 3rd base in the bottom of the 11th frame with a leadoff double and a wild pitch, but a shallow pop out to center, a grounder to 3rd base and a foul pop to the left side allowed the Badgers to escape.

Badger runners reached the corners with one out in the 12th off a walk and an infield error by AUM when centerfielder Andy Robbins made the Warhawks pay with a sacrifice fly to right off relief pitcher PJ Leto that brought pinch runner Michael Ball in from 3rd base to give SHC the 6-5 lead.

AUM put the tying and winning run at 2nd and 3rd bases with one out but a fly ball to Robbins in center resulted in a game-ending double play when he gunned down Warhawk centerfielder Hayden Hillyer at 3rd base before left fielder Blake Bearden could cross home plate.

Badger starter Jack Howard went 7.1 innings in a no-decision effort and allowed just six hits with three walks and five strikeouts while Douglas earned the win in four innings with four hits, two walks and four strikeouts. Nason lasted 11.1 innings and gave up nine hits and seven walks with nine strikeouts in the hard-luck loss.

On offense, Sostarich had three hits for the Badgers while Hillyer had three hits for AUM.

Spring Hill (24-16, 12-7 SSAC) will wrap up this three-game series at the Warhawks with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
