The Spring Hill College Department of Athletics has named Ryan Stevens and Caroline Sagrera as its USA ROTC-Spring Hill College Student-Athletes of the Week for their excellent efforts during the week of March 31-April 6, 2014.
A junior pitcher from Theodore, Ala., Stevens returned from a broken wrist suffered in his first at-bat of the season to hit three homeruns in his last 22 at-bats while also drawing 11 walks. On the mound, he picked up his first win of the season with a five-inning relief appearance at AUM on Saturday by scattering four hits with two strikeouts.
A sophomore from Baton Rouge, La., Sagrera (19-3) went 3-1 on the week with two conference shutouts. She pitched 27 innings with 18 hits allowed, gave up six earned runs with 44 strikeouts and 11 walks. Sagrera currently leads the NAIA with 229 strikeouts in 150 innings pitched while holding a 0.65 ERA and opponents are hitting just .128 against her.
In recognition of this honor, each week's winners of USA ROTC-Spring Hill College Student-Athletes of the Week award will receive a T-shirt, water bottle and handy gym bag compliments of the University of South Alabama ROTC.
