The Spring Hill College Department of Athletics has named Justin Rooks and Avery Kyle as its USA ROTC-Spring Hill College Student-Athletes of the Week for their outstanding efforts during the week of April 7-13, 2014.
Rooks, a sophomore throws specialist from Murphy High School in Mobile, placed 8th out of 14 competitors in the shot put with a toss of 12.16 meters at the Seminole Invitational hosted by Florida State University on Friday and Saturday. His mark was the best by a non-Division 1 competitor at the event. Rooks also heaved the discus 29.76 meters for an 11th place finish out of 14 athletes.
Kyle, a senior from Plano, Texas, paced a Badger team victory at the Spring Hill College Badger Invitational held at the Spring Hill Golf Course with a card of 158 for a winning score of +14 over a field of 23 golfers. She closed the two-day event with marks of 80 and 78 across the par-72, 5810-yard course.
In recognition of this honor, each week's winners of USA ROTC-Spring Hill College Student-Athletes of the Week award will receive a T-shirt, water bottle and handy gym bag compliments of the University of South Alabama ROTC.
