MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Spring Hill College women's golf team finished in 4th place out of 12 teams at the 2014 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Championship Tournament held at Lagoon Park Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.
As a team, SHC took a total of 665 strokes (331, 334) for a +89 score over the 5844-yard, par-72 course to finish 22 strokes behind the winning score of 643 (325, 318) posted by the College of Coastal Georgia.
Individually, senior Katie Callahan of Prairie Village, Kan., finished in 7th place with a +16 score of 160 (78, 82) to finish 11 strokes behind Christian Liggin (74, 79, 153) of CCG. Senior Avery Kyle of Plano, Texas, carded a score of 164 (86, 78) for a final tally of +20 and a 9th place finish in a field of 60 golfers.
Sophomore Alexandria Ryals of Mobile notched a score of 173 with rounds of 92 and 81 (+29) for 25th place and junior Rachel Failla (82, 94) of New Orleans, La., came in at 30th place with a +32 score of 176. Senior Audrey Dombrowski (85, 93) from St. Louis, Mo., marked a +34 score of 178 for 34th place.
Following the tournament, Kyle was named to the 2014 SSAC All-Conference Team while Callahan and Failla both earned a spot on the 2014 SSAC All-Academic Team for their performances in the classroom. Dombrowski was named as the Spring Hill representative on the 2014 Musco Lighting-SSAC Champions of Character Team.
