The Spring Hill College baseball team ended the 2014 regular season with a 4-1 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) loss to the 10th-ranked Brewton-Parker College Barons at historic Stan Galle Field on Friday afternoon.
The Barons (30-9, 19-7 SSAC) took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning off a wild pitch by Badger starter Jack Howard (5-4) that brought in designated hitter Jacob Bogaards from 3rd base. BPC added an unearned run in the 7th inning and effectively decided the game in the 8th inning with two more runs scored off a single to left by catcher Clay Fenwick followed by a double down the left field line by second baseman Eddie Peyton.
Howard went 7.1 innings with 14 hits, five walks and five strikeouts while Johnny Cristi (3-0) went the distance for the Barons scattering five hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
The Badger offense was led by centerfielder Taylor Eads with two hits including his 13th homerun of the season in the 9th inning. Shortstop Brooks Bobinger also ripped a double down the left field line in the 8th frame.
Bogaards and right fielder Brett Steadman each had three-hit days for the Barons.
Spring Hill (28-27, 14-16 SSAC) was eliminated from the race for the final SSAC Tournament slot when William Carey fell to Bethel University in extra innings on Friday evening.
