The 10th-ranked Spring Hill College softball team split a home Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) doubleheader with the 6th-ranked Belhaven University Lady Blazers on Saturday afternoon at Murray Field by the winning a 4-1 contest in the opener and falling 2-0 in the nightcap.

SHC starter Caroline Sagrera (31-7) pitched both ends of the twin bill and tallied nine strikeouts while giving up seven hits with two walks.

The Badgers opened the day by scoring two runs in the 1st inning of the first game off Belhaven (38-13, 20-10 SSAC) starter Katy Adair (9-5) via a run-scoring double to deep right-center by catcher Sam Leach that was followed by right fielder Taylor Lahasky's double down the right field line to bring in Leach. Third baseman Lea Kittrell added a third Badger run in the 2nd inning with an RBI-single to center off Blazer reliever Jessica Paris.

Left fielder Dominique Corona lifted a sacrifice fly to left to make it a 3-1 game in the 3rd inning, but Badger centerfielder Taylor Webre drove a 6th inning double to the fence in right-center to plate second baseman Raleigh Downs to tack on a fourth and final SHC run.

Three BU pitchers allowed five hits with five walks, three hit batters and five strikeouts in the opening game.

Two Spring Hill errors proved costly in the second game as Webre overran a grounder in center allowing Corona to score from 2nd base in the 1st inning and an errant throw by Leach on a successful steal of 2nd base by Blazer pinch runner Stacey Luciani moved the runner to 3rd base where she later scored off a sacrifice fly to right by right fielder Katy Adair.

Ginger Lonergan (14-4) won the duel with Sagrera in Game Two going the distance with five hits, no walks and two strikeouts.

At the plate, Badger left fielder Jenna Charnock collected four hits on the afternoon while Leach had two hits with an RBI. Adair had two hits for the Blazers including a double and a run driven-in.
