OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The No. 1 seeded Spring Hill College softball team suffered a 1-0 loss to the host and No. 2 seed Oklahoma City University Stars in the winners' bracket game of 2014 NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round at Ann Lacy Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
SHC starter Caroline Sagrera (37-10) could not escape a 2nd and 3rd jam in the 1st inning as third baseman Emily Krienke of the Stars put a run-scoring single into right field, but Badger right fielder Taylor Lahasky limited the damage to a single run with a bullet to home plate where catcher Sam Leach put the tag on a sliding runner for the third out of the frame.
Danielle Fox (20-3) of the Stars (51-11, 2-0) left eight Badgers on base while pitching around six Spring Hill hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Sagrera went the distance for the 44th time in 2014 while limiting Oklahoma City to four hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts.
Spring Hill (41-13, 1-1) will play again this evening at 6 p.m. versus the winner of this afternoon's elimination game at 3 p.m. between MidAmerica Nazarene University and Kansas Wesleyan University.
