GULF SHORES, Ala. – Freshman Corinne Missi of Yaoundé, Cameroon, was named a member of the 2014 NAIA Women's Track & Field Team on Monday afternoon following her 7th place performance in the triple jump at the 34th annual NAIA National Championships held at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala., from May 22-24.
Missi finished in 7th place out of 30 competitors with a distance of 11.71 meters on her second attempt after a foul jump in her first trip down the runway. Her third attempt netted an 11.18-meter mark and her final three attempts were all fouls.
The 11.71-meter distance set a new personal mark for Missi as well as a new Spring Hill College record that broke her own mark of 11.59 meters set on May 9, 2014.
Missi, a dual-sport student-athlete who also plays for the SHC women's basketball team, is the first Badger Track & Field athlete to earn All-America status for either the women's or men's teams in the brief two-year history of the programs.
As a result of Missi's performance, the SHC team tallied two points in the overall scoring, making the Badgers the only Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) women's team to score at the National Championships and tying the Badgers for a 46th place finish out of the 59 teams to score.
