The Spring Hill College women golfers posted a 348 in the first round of the Bubba Watson Invitational in Pace, Fla. Head Coach Steve Hodges stated, "This is a step in the right direction. They shaved 17 strokes off last year's opening round of 365. I am excited about their direction and future."
Despite an errant tee shot that found a hazard and some other misfortunes, freshman Victoria Gonzalez of Miami, Fla., came in with the low score for the Lady Badgers with an 82. "Gonzalez is usually the last person to leave the practice area and will undoubtedly be a star at SHC," commented Hodges.
The top five players declared for this match scored well as a team, Gonzalez (82), senior Jamie Mercurio of Cleveland, Ohio, (86), senior Mackensie Jimison (86), sophomore Shea Bowers from Mobile (94), and senior Adrienne Roberts of St. Louis, Mo. (98). Overall, Lady Badger drives are hitting the fairways and their approach shots are adequate for the season's opening event, but the coaches feel the team is focused on improving day-by-day.
The two-day event ends Tuesday, September 18.
