The Spring Hill College men's soccer team lost its opening match of the season to the No. 7 ranked Auburn-Montgomery Senators by a final score of 4-0 on Saturday. "We knew it was a big challenge for us," remarked Spring Hill Head Coach Adam Pearce, "but if you're some day going to be as good as the AUM's of the world, you have to play teams like AUM."
At halftime, the score stood at 1-0 via a Birgir Birgisson goal just four minutes into the game. The teams suffered through a 45-minute rain delay before the start of the second half and the Senators (1-0) came out of the locker room ready to play. Even in the sloppy field conditions left in the wake of the passing storm, they quickly tacked on three goals in less than four minutes off the feet of Birgisson, Mikel Herrero and Magnus Olafsson.
For the game, Spring Hill (0-1) was out shot 24 to five. Sophomore AUM goalie Nedad Cudic collected a shut out while grabbing three saves. For the Badgers, freshman Cory Bronenkamp of St. Louis, Mo., totaled four saves.
Spring Hill next takes on Faulkner University at home on Friday, September 7 in a men and women's doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
