Head Coach Adam Pearce and the Spring Hill College Athletics Department announced the signing of goalkeeper William Gafford of Murphy High School in Mobile to the Badgers men's soccer team on Tuesday morning. Gafford has also played for the Mobile Soccer Club where he has served as a team captain since 2003.
Pearce commented, "William is an exciting addition to the 2008 squad and I look for him to compete for the starting job from the get-go. William is an athletic goalkeeper with a confidence and personality that will allow him to become a great leader for the purple and white. I couldn't be more pleased to have William on board and look forward to working with him on campus."
Gafford was Murphy's captain in both his junior and senior seasons and was the selected the team MVP in 2006. He participated in the "Battle of the Bay" All Star game between Mobile and Baldwin Counties three consecutive years from 2006 to 2008 and also played in the Alabama North/South All Star Game in 2007.
When not defending a goal on the field, Gafford has been active in the Murphy High Student Government Association, assisted the American Red Cross as a Blood Drive Volunteer and served as a volunteer soccer coach for the Under-5 age group.
