The Spring Hill College Department of Athletics and Recreation has announced the hiring of Emily Shaffer as the head coach of its men's and women's cross country teams.  Shaffer is a 2007 graduate of SHC and ran for the Lady Badgers squad for four years as an undergraduate.

Shaffer appears on several of Spring Hill's Top 10 finishes lists.  Most notably, she holds the school's second best time in the women's 6k with a time of 26:11.3.  The Lady Badgers finished as runners-up at the GCAC Championships in her junior year.

"We're extremely proud to have Emily take over our cross country program," said SHC Athletics Director Scott Westbrook.  "She was a tremendously energetic competitor as a runner and we know she will bring that fire and enthusiasm back with her as a coach."

"I am absolutely thrilled to return to the Spring Hill cross country teams," remarked Shaffer.  "This is an exciting time and I look forward to working with our runners and getting started this fall."

Shaffer is a native of Thibodeaux, La., and currently lives in Mobile where she has served as Alumni Program Coordinator at Spring Hill College for the past two years.
