The Spring Hill College women's soccer team opened the 2008 season with a convincing 3-1 win over visiting Texas College (0-1) on Thursday night. With the score tied at one goal each following the intermission, freshman midfielder Elaine Femmer of St. Louis, Mo., poked in a loose ball in front of the Steer net to give the Lady Badgers a 2-1 lead early in the second period.
The Lady Badgers (1-0) had scored the opening goal of 2008 in the first half when junior All-GCAC forward Kasey Pruett found the back of the net to tie the game at one.
Later, freshman reserve forward Allison Akers of Houston, Texas, added the final goal of the night.
The Lady Badgers out-shot their opponents 16 to nine while freshman goalie Kayla McCrory from Fairhope picked up her first collegiate victory, recording six saves.
