The Spring Hill College women's soccer team (3-0) pushed its season opening winning streak to three games with a 2-1 overtime victory over Lyon College in Memphis on Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Badgers found themselves down 1-0 with just three minutes off the game clock, but regrouped at halftime. Freshman defender Nina Caputa of St. Louis, Mo., headed in the tying goal in the 58th minute off a pass from senior midfielder Sarah Engels. In the extra period, Engels would add the game-winning goal with a header of her own.
"We didn't start the game with much poise," said Coach Adam Pearce. "But the team made adjustments at halftime and got refocused. We also showed that we are getting more ‘game fit' and that allowed us to stretch their defense further."
The win gave freshman Kyle Capstick of Memphis her first collegiate victory in goal. The Lady Badgers return home for a Friday match with Faulkner University on Friday at 4 p.m. in the opening round of the Spring Hill College Invitational.
