The Spring Hill College men's soccer team (1-2-1) finally found the winning formula on Friday afternoon with a 4-0 shutout of visiting Faulkner University (0-3) on Library Field. Neither squad was able to find a goal in the first period, but the Badgers broke through the Eagle defense often in the second half.
Senior forward Sean Simpson of Ballwin, Mo., scored his first collegiate hat trick with the game's first three goals in the 46th, 64th, and 74th minutes. Sophomore forward Cody Walker of Tampa, Fla., assisted on the first score while freshman Bryce Privett of Fairhope aided with the second. Simpson's third goal came off a penalty kick.
The final score came off the foot of freshman Keith Tardibuono of Mobile's Baker High off an assist from Decatur's Phoenix Iverson.
Murphy High's William Gafford collected his first collegiate shutout in goal and had six saves. Jeff Preston of Huntsville took the loss for the Eagles with five saves.
The Badgers out shot Faulkner 12 to nine and took three corner kicks while the Eagles had none.
The Badgers will return to Library Field on Sunday versus Central Baptist College (Ark.). The women will play at 1 p.m. with the men's teams to follow at 3 p.m.
