Men's Soccer - Fri, Sep. 12, 2008
The Spring Hill College men's soccer team (2-3-1) fell to Oglethorpe University (2-3) by the score of 5-1 at the Birmingham-Southern Invitational on Friday evening.
Spring Hill found themselves down 2-0 at the halftime intermission via goals by Oglethorpe's Michael Muller and Scott Devault in the 31st and 35th minutes.  The Badgers then saw the mountain grow even larger early in the second period when Oglethorpe's Bryan Burnick made the score 3-0 in the 55th minute.
Senior forward Sean Simpson of Ballwin, Mo., cut the OU advantage to 3-1 with a goal in the 60th minute, but the Badgers could not manage further to crack the mystery of Oglethorpe goalie, Michael Hadjisimos, who collected one save while facing just four Badger shots.
Forward Amel Komic added the fourth and fifth goals for OU in the 83rd and 85th minutes.
Freshman goalie William Gafford of Fairhope took his second loss in goal of the season, but managed to record five saves versus 24 shots.
The Badgers will remain in Birmingham to play Birmingham-Southern (1-3) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
