The Spring Hill College women's soccer team (6-2, 0-1) lost its Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opener at No. 19 William Carey University by the score of 3-2 on Tuesday evening.
Carey (4-2-1, 1-0) held a 1-0 advantage at the intermission and built a 2-0 lead early in the second period before Spring Hill roared back to tie the game with two goals by junior forward Kasey Pruett of Flower Mound, Texas. Pruett's first goal came off an assist by senior midfielder Moe Sargent in the 51st minute while the second goal was assisted by senior midfielder Sarah Engels in the 75th minute.
Carey's Shayna Turner, however, would provide the game-winning goal in the 87th minute.
SHC Head Coach Adam Pearce commented, "We adjusted well at the half and really began to put on added pressure and test their back line. We also held up well to Carey's physical style of play in the midfield, but they just found a way to sneak a backside goal past us with three minutes left."
The Lady Badgers will host the University of Mobile on Friday at 6 p.m.
