The Spring Hill College women's soccer team (6-3, 0-2) suffered its first shutout of the season at the hands of cross-town rival the University of Mobile in a 3-0 defeat on Friday night.
Mobile (4-4-2, 1-0) opened the scoring in the 2nd minute of play off a corner kick by Ashley Lachappelle that was headed in by Danielle Byrd.
Spring Hill was later staggered in the 9th minute by a Lady Rams' goal off the foot of Chelsea Bate from 30 yards out that was simply too tall for SHC starting goalkeeper Kayla McCrory. In the 19th minute, Bate repeated the shot from virtually the same spot on the field to put the Rams up 3-0 at the intermission.
Neither team mustered much of an offensive threat in the second half as both teams combined for just five total shots in the period. For the match, Spring Hill out shot the Rams 12-7 and took six corner kicks to Mobile's two.
McCrory made two saves for the Lady Badgers while her counterpart, Mobile's Anna Maddox, stopped eight shots.
The Lady Badgers will host Shorter College (5-2) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
