The Spring Hill College men's soccer team lost a 4-3 home decision to Concordia College-Selma in double overtime on Friday evening.
The Badgers led 2-1 at halftime following a headed in goal by junior forward Zechariah Townsend of Middleburg, Fla., coming off a corner kick by freshman midfielder Bryce Privett of Fairhope in the 12th minute. Senior forward Sean Simpson from Ballwin, Mo., then made the score 2-0 with a goal in the 21st minute.
Concordia answered with a score by Hyron Brown-Baptiste just before halftime at the 43rd minute.
Spring Hill came out firing to open the second half and Simpson scored again in the 49th minute with a nice chip shot goal over the head of Concordia keeper Akil Benjamin.
The Hornets from Selma refused to die, however, and Brown-Baptiste scored again in the 52nd minute and Trevon Mitchell tied the game in the 71st minute by cleaning up a shot that ricocheted off the left post. Chuvalos George ended the game with a goal in the 102nd minute.
Benjamin made three saves and faced 11 shots while sophomore Dan Criscione of Maplewood, Mo., made four saves against 20 shots in the loss. SHC took five corner kicks to just two for the visitors.
The Badgers (4-7-3, 0-1) will next host 8th ranked Belhaven College (13-0-1, 1-0) in a conference match on Saturday, October 25 at 5 p.m. on Library Field.
