Spring Hill College freshman runner Kate Imwalle from Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School set a new standard for the SHC women's cross country team by completing the 5,000 meters of the Choctaw Open in a winning time of 18:52.56. Her time places her atop the SHC Women's Top 5K Times List, surpassing the mark of 18:59.5 previously set by Erika Blattenburger in November 1999.
Imwalle's time also surpasses the SHC freshman record of 19:32.6 held by Claire Pabody since November 1998.
In addition to Imwalle's victory, other Lady Badger finishers were sophomore Melanie Ferry (22:01.11, 23rd), sophomore Lynne Fritscher (22:59.76, 31st), sophomore Maggie Meier (23:00.37, 32nd), sophomore Cici Venker (23:15.63, 37th), freshman Ashley Derenbecker (25:32.87, 45th) and senior Gussie Altman (25:34.44, 46th).
