The Belhaven College Blazers picked up their first conference win of the season and also avenged an earlier 2-0 loss to Spring Hill College with a 3-2 double-overtime victory over the Lady Badgers on Saturday at Library Field.
Goals by SHC junior forward Kasey Pruett of Flower Mound, Texas, in the 21st minute and by the Blazers' Dana Sullivan in the 44th minute left the score knotted 1-1 at the intermission, but Spring Hill senior midfielder Sarah Engels put the Lady Badgers up 2-1 with a rebound goal in the 53rd minute.
Belhaven was not to be denied, however, as Christin Kaim sent the game into overtime with a score in the 69th minute.
Neither team could score in the first OT and then in the 102nd minute Sarah Benson gave Belhaven (8-5-1, 1-3-1) the win with a long distance free lick from over thirty yards out that was just over the fingertips of leaping SHC keeper, freshman Kayla McCrory of Fairhope.
Mcrory made five shots against 11 shots in the loss while Belhaven's Kristin Parson made seven saves against 13 shots. The Lady Badgers dominated in cornerkicks taking 10 to BC's one.
The Lady Badgers (10-4, 2-3) will visit the University of Mobile (5-6-3, 2-2-1) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
