Spring Hill College cross country runner Patrick Aucoin won the 2008 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country individual titles at Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Miss., on Saturday morning.
Aucoin, a senior from River Ridge, La., successfully defended his 2007 GCAC Individual Championship and completed the 8,000-meter course in a time of 27:01 equaling the third best time in Spring Hill history. As a result of his victory, Aucoin immediately qualified to compete in the NAIA National Championships in Kenosha, Wis., on November 22 for the third time in his four-year career.
Other SHC finishers were freshman Will Kirkikis (6th, 28:31) of Kenner, La., his brother junior Mark Kirkikis (9th, 30:31), freshman Brian Otero (10th, 30:38) of Miami, Fla., freshman Christian Boyer (16th, 31:28) of Mobile, and senior Ben Lauber (30th, 35:49) of St. Louis, Mo. A total of 36 runners competed with SHC finishing second in the team standings with 42 points to Xavier-New Orleans.
Following the event, Aucoin was named GCAC Male Runner of the Year and was joined on the All Conference squad by Will and Mark Kirkikis along with Brian Otero.
