The Spring Hill College women's soccer team ended the 2008 season with a 3-1 loss to LSU-Shreveport in the opening round of the 2008 GCAC Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.
LSU-S (8-7-1) opened the scoring with a penalty kick goal by Michelle Talley following a foul by SHC senior midfielder Sarah Engels of St. Louis, Mo., in the goalkeeper's box in the 24th minute. Talley then gave the Pilots a 2-0 lead in 42nd minute with an unassisted goal past SHC keeper sophomore Jessica Makowski of Crestview, Fla.
The Lady Badgers answered with a goal in the 53rd minute by freshman forward Allison Akers of Houston, Texas, who accepted a rebound off a missed Badger shot and put the ball into the lower right corner of the net.
Jessica McDonald iced the game for LSU-S in the 71st minute with another goal off a rebounded shot.
Makowski, making just her second career start in goal for Spring Hill (10-7-2) made four saves against 11 shots. Freshman Shay Wells of Hammond, La., made nine saves versus 22 shots by Spring Hill.
