The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that three SHC women's cross country runners were named as 2008 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes. Seniors Gussie Altman and Stephanie Hoffman along with junior Kari Wolfe were each selected for their excellence in the classroom as well as the athletic field.
For Hoffman, a Nursing major from Belleville, Ill., this year marks her second consecutive appearance on the Scholar Athletes list. It is the first year of selection for Altman, a Nursing major from Biloxi, Miss., and Wolfe, a junior Cottonwood, Ala., who is majoring in Integrated Communications.
Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify. This year 251 women's cross country runners were named Daktronics-NAIA Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athletes representing 108 schools.
