Stewart, Tovar Named SHC Athletes of the Week

The Spring Hill College Athletics Department has named senior Sam Stewart and freshman Alex Tovar as the school’s Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of March 10-16, 2008.

 Male Athlete of the Week

Stewart, an outfielder from Mobile, had a big weekend at Tougaloo College where he had nine hits in 15 at-bats with a home run.  In six games this week, he had scored eight runs and had 11 hits, three RBI, three stolen bases, two doubles and a homerun.  Stewart is currently hitting .307 for the season.

 Female Athlete of the Week

Tovar, a walk-on tennis player from Miami, Fla., remains unbeaten in women’s doubles competition (7-0) with her partner Lynne Fritscher.  Against 23rd ranked Xavier University, she put the Lady Badgers in great position for an upset with her spectacular win on No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
