Soccer Teams Welcome Montevallo

The Spring Hill College men and women’s soccer teams will face NCAA Division II foe the University of Montevallo Falcons on Saturday beginning with the women’s contest at 2 p.m. The men’s match is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start.
For the Lady Badgers (4-3), sophomore forward Kasey Pruett from Flower Mound, Tex., leads the squad offensively with eight goals scored and two assists on the season. Senior co-captain Jennifer Huber of St. Louis, Mo., has scored four goals with five assists totaling 13 points from her midfield position while her midfield mate and fellow St. Louis native junior Sarah Engels leads the Lady Badgers in handouts with six assists. In goal, senior co-captain Shannon Netherby, has notched two shutouts this year and recorded 25 saves.
On the men’s side, junior co-captain Sean Simpson of Ballwin, Mo. has 10 points on the year, scoring four goals with two assists. Freshman goalkeeper Cory Bronenkamp from St. Louis has yet to record a shutout, but he has stopped 21 shots for the Badgers (2-2-1).
Montevallo’s women are 4-5-0 on the season with junior midfielder Stacey Balaam of Suffolk, England, scoring four goals and six assists. Junior goalkeeper Corey Gros of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, has two shutouts and recorded an impressive 52 saves on the year. The Falcon men sport a 6-1-1 record led by junior forward Jonathan Maloney of West Yorkshire, England, with 10 goals and three assists. Senior goalie Melford James, Jr., of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, has recorded four shutouts and over 30 saves on the season.
