In the first game, the Badgers (2-5) jumped out on top with lead-off homer by right fielder Ryan Hall, but the Eagles answered in the bottom of the opening frame with their own lead-off homer by centerfielder Kevin Leslie and an RBI double by first baseman Winston Stone.
Spring Hill starter Matt Hasley (0-2) would allow two more Faulkner runs in the second, but the Badgers battled back in the fourth and fifth innings. Catcher Billy Saliski plated the Badgers’ first two runs with a two-out single to left in the fourth. Shortstop Pat White would score in the fifth off a wild throw by Faulkner’s second baseman Topher Blanchett while attempting to complete a double play.
Faulkner added two more insurance runs in the fifth off a Brandon Reed homer and a Kevin Boyd sacrifice fly. Jordan Cowart (1-0) recorded the win for Faulkner and Austin Adams earned the save in relief. Hasley pitched 4.1 innings with three strikeouts and a walk for the Badgers while Cowart pitched four innings with four strikeouts and one walk for the Eagles.
In game two, Faulkner scored three runs in the first, four runs in the second and three runs in the third off starting Badger pitcher Christopher Bruce (0-1). Right fielder Jose Morrillo provided the big blow in the second smacking a three-run homer over the fence in left-center field. The Badgers recorded just two hits off Faulkner’s Ryan Chase (1-0) in four innings of work.
Spring Hill will next play Birmingham-Southern in a doubleheader at Stan Galle Field on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
