The University of Mobile baseball team improved to 10-0 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action by dominating visiting Spring Hill early and often in the first game of Saturday’s double header by a 10-0 score.
The Rams’ bats struck for 6 runs in the first 3 innings of play and Jesse Luker (3-0) shut down the Badger offense with 6 innings of 2-hit ball.
With one out in the first, David Cramblitt opened the scoring by launching a two-run shot to deep left field, and then an inning later, Nelson Curry ripped a RBI-triple to center and Stork followed with a sacrifice fly to stake Mobile to a quick 4-0 lead.
Baria added to that lead with a solo homer in the third inning and then a pair of Javier Cherta errors plated another Ram run for the 6-0 lead.
As Luker continued to cruise, allowing only two base runners over the final four frames, the Rams ended the game due to the 10-run rule with a four-spot in the bottom of the sixth inning. In that final inning, the Rams sent nine batters to the plate and Carlos Romero and Daine Solomon ended the game with back-to-back RBI singles.
Nelson Curry went 2-for-3 at the plate for Mobile with three runs scored, while Baria finished 2-for-3 with the homer and 2 RBI and Brett Barber collected two hits in three trips to the plate. Cramblitt finished with two runs and two RBI.
Junior Tommy Gieseking (0-1) took the loss for the Badgers (4-9, 2-7 GCAC) surrendering five earned runs over 2.2 innings on the mound.
