The Spring Hill College men’s basketball team lost to the No. 4 ranked LSU-Shreveport Pilots 90-68 in the semifinals of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday evening. LSU-S moves on to host Xavier University-New Orleans in the tournament finals while Spring Hill College ends its season with an overall record of 19-12.
The Pilots (29-2) jumped out to a 9-0 lead to start the contest and never looked back, holding a 50-28 advantage at the half. The second half was evenly played, but the Badgers could not overcome the large first-half deficit. LSU-S avenged an earlier 100-80 home defeat at the hands of the Badgers that knocked them out of the No. 2 ranking in the NAIA.
Senior forward Cash Covington recorded a double-double in his final collegiate game with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Jeremy Price and sophomore center Owen McNally also scored 13 points apiece for the Badgers while senior Noah Woolridge tacked on 10 points.
As a team, the Badgers were 38% (22-57) from the field and 35% (10-28) from behind the 3-point line. The deciding factor came beneath the boards where SHC was out rebounded 33 to 49 including 25 offensive rebounds by the Pilots.
