Spring Hill College men’s basketball defeated Southern University-New Orleans by the score of 81-74 at home on Saturday evening.  SHC held a 46-41 halftime advantage over the Knights and built a 10-point lead at 51-41 with the first baskets of the second period.  A 3-point basket by SUNO’s Dominic Perry cut the score to 53-50 at 16:25, but the Badgers answered with a run that left the score 65-53 with 9:35 on the clock.

Guard Marcus Coleman scored 20 for the Badgers with senior Cash Covington adding 15 points and eight rebounds to pass 1,200 points for his career.  Noah Woolridge and scored 13 as did Jeremy Price who passed 1,000 points in his Badger career.  Freshman center Nick Brown scored 10 points.

As a team, the Badgers were 25-50 (50%) from the field and 12-27 (44%) from 3-point territory.  They out rebounded the Knights 45-34 and committed just 11 turnovers to SUNO’s 18.

SUNO (5-19, 2-16 GCAC) was led by Perry with 25, Kevin Thomas with 20, and Kendrick Grayson with 11.  Thomas also pulled in seven rebounds.  SUNO shot 36% (24-67 from the field and 38% (14-37) from 3-point land.

The Spring Hill College (18-11, 10-8 GCAC) men have secured a first round bye in the GCAC Tournament and will play on the road in the quarterfinals beginning on Wednesday.
