Lady Badgers Fall at Home, 79-76

The Spring Hill College Lady Badgers (3-14, 2-5 GCAC) lost a home match to William Carey University on Saturday night by the score of 79-76.  With just over four minutes remaining in the contest, Spring Hill took a slim 66-65 lead off a field goal by junior guard Rashonda Belton of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., but then saw William Carey (11-8, 2-5) go on a 7-point run that built a 72-66 advantage for the visitors from Hattiesburg.

With three seconds remaining, freshman forward Lynleigh Hughes of Hammond, La., cut a 5-point deficit down to just three points with a basket.  Fallon Hartfield of Carey then attempted a long down-court pass that sailed out of bounds, giving SHC a final shot at tying the game, but Belton's 3-point attempt failed to rattle in.

Four Lady Badgers registered double-digit points.  Sharidan Hollis scored 16, Keisha Forbes added 15, Belton chipped in 12 and Hughes contributed 10.  Forbes also collected seven of Spring Hill’s 40 total rebounds.

As a team, SHC shot 44% (29-66) and 32% (7-22) from 3-point land.  William Carey was 26 of 64 (41%) from the field and 48% (10-21) from behind the arc. 

WCU was led by Shonte Kennedy and Hartfield with 20 points each, followed by Taphne Jackson with 18 and Kristin Blackledge with 12 points.  Hartfield also pulled in a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Lady Badgers travel to New Orleans, La., on Saturday to play SUNO in a conference match up beginning at 5:00 p.m.
