Joe H. Williams serves as head coach of the Spring Hill College Men's & Women's Cross Country teams.
Williams is developing the SHC cross country teams into two of the top SSAC programs. His teams earned the runner-up spot in the GCAC in his first season (2009). In Wiliiams' three years as coach, he has had nine athletes earn All Conference in both the GCAC and the SSAC. He has also had nine athletes qualify for the NAIA National Championships.
Williams stays active at every level of the SSAC, NAIA and the USATF. In 2010, he served as the Meet Director for the SSAC Championships. He stays very active with the USATF both as a coach and official. Williams holds a USATF Level II Coaching Certificate in Endurance, Sprints, Hurdles and Relays. He is also a USATF Level I Certified Instructor and and holds certification as a USATF National Level Official.
While at SHC, Williams is proud that 14 of his student-athletes have been recognized as Daktronic-NAIA Scholar Athletes and both his teams were named NAIA Scholar Teams in 2009 and 2010.
Williams ran in college at Central State University in Edmund, Okla., where he was a 4-year letterman in Track and Cross Country. He was a 4-year NAIA National Championship Individual Qualifier.
Williams received his B.S. in Biology from Central State in 1979 and his M.S. in Physical Education from Northwest Missouri State University in 1984. While at NWMSU, he served as a Graduate Assistant and Equipment Manger with the Track and Cross Country programs from 1981-84.
Williams is married to Carolyn Hearon of Mobile. They have one child, Joseph.
