The Spring Hill College men’s golf team finished Day One of the Lindenwood University Fall Invitational in sixth place out of a field of 15 teams. In the first round, the Badgers shot a combined 310 score on the par 288 course followed by a combined 296 in the afternoon’s second round.
Senior Patrick Jenkins of Chandler, Ariz., led the Badgers in the first round with a score of 74 while freshman Eddie Smith of San Antonio, Tex., came in with a 72 in the second round.
Played at Crescent Farms Golf Course outside of St. Louis the tournament’s course has Westwood Bermuda fairways, zoysia collars and large bentgrass greens. The course holds a rating of 74.1 (slope 132) with several holes ambling over flat stretches while others take advantage of the rolling terrain. Water is in play on 14 of 18 holes, including ponds and some creeks.
Head Coach Steve Hodges is excited by his team’s performance stating, “It is a big improvement over their first event in Hattiesburg where they shot 318. They cut eight strokes off that score in today’s first round on a course that is much more difficult. Then, they turned around and cut 14 more strokes off their first round when they teed it up in the afternoon.”
The event will conclude on Tuesday with Hodges anticipating his team to turn in even lower scores as they gain familiarity with the course and its 7,078-yard design.
