Badgers Tie Faulkner, 3-3
Game at a glance
Sep 07, 2007 05:00 PM
Versus: Faulkner University
T 3-3 (2ot)
The Spring Hill College men’s soccer team saw a 3-1 lead evaporate in the second half as the Faulkner University Eagles fought back and ended the match with a 3-3 draw following two overtime.
In the first half, Badger sophomore forward Stanley Byrd of Moss Point, Miss., opened the scoring with a goal at the 9:04 mark off an assist from junior captain Sean Simpson of Ballwin, Mo., and freshman forward Reed Haase of Foley.
Faulkner, however, fought back with a physical attacking offense and at the 17:50 mark tied the game at a goal apiece off the foot of Nelson Obanoyen.
The second half opened with an offensive surge by the Badgers (0-1-1) as Simpson added an unassisted goal at 55:01 and scored his second goal of evening less than six minutes later with assists from freshman forward Cody Walker of Tampa, Fla., and Senyo Amedo, a freshman forward from Birmingham.
Faulkner (0-4-1) continued to battle despite the score. The game became increasingly physical as the game advanced, evidenced by the 10 yellow cards, 2 red cards and 56 total fouls called by the referee.
Following a 30-minute lightening delay in the second half, the Eagles would tie the game with two goals by forward Marsel Peters at 69:40 and 72:27.
The Spring Hill men play Harris-Stowe State at home on Sunday with kickoff at 2 p.m.
