Mobile Runs Past Badgers in Second Half

The University of Mobile men’s soccer team used four second-half goals to bolt past Spring Hill College for a 5-1 victory on Library Field on Wednesday afternoon.  Spring Hill (3-6-2, 0-2) was out shot 22 to three and allowed 10 shots-on-goal while taking just two in the contest.

Jack St. Hilaire of the Rams scored the only goal of the first half for either team at the 14:32 mark of the game.  From that point, heavy rains began to fall throughout the first period and the half became a defensive test-of-wills as both teams struggled to find shots.

The second half, however, opened with a Mobile goal by Ruben Diaz just two minutes into the period.

Lima Caetano of the Rams would score a goal at 69:02, but Spring Hill answered back a mere 41 seconds later when team captain junior Sean Simpson of Ballwin, Mo., found freshman Cody Walker of Tampa, Fla., in front of the net.  Walker was able to work the ball past the Mobile goalkeeper, Jason Williams, for the score.

Diaz would score his second goal of the match off a long arcing shot at 74:22 and Gustavo Souza would add a penalty kick goal with less than four minutes remaining in the game.

Badger goalkeeper freshman Cory Bronenkamp from St. Louis, Mo., made five saves.  Mobile committed 19 fouls while Spring Hill committed 10 fouls.

The Badgers next play Georgetown College (3-8) from Kentucky at home on Friday at 3 p.m. with a women’s match versus Mobile following the men’s contest at 5 p.m.
