Game at a glance

Versus: LSU-Shreveport
L 0-1

The Spring Hill College women’s soccer team opened a two-game road trip with a 0-1 loss to LSU-Shreveport on Sunday afternoon.  Rachel Alexander of LSU-S scored the match’s lone goal in the eighth minute of the first half off an assist from Caitlin Smith.

Following Alexander’s goal, the match became a defensive battle as both squads struggled to find a means to finish plays on offensive.  Spring Hill Head Coach Adam Pearce said, “We played some good soccer today, but we just could not find that missing piece.  We were intelligent and calculated on offense and we had a very complete defensive effort, but for whatever reason we did not score.”

Neither goalkeeper faced many shots as the midfielders and defenders fought for ball possession for most of the day.  Senior Shannon Netherby of Spring Hill made one save against eight shots while Kelsi McNew of the Pilots made two saves against just four shots.

The Spring Hill women (7-6-1, 2-2-1) next play in Tyler, Texas, on Monday at 5 p.m. versus Texas College following a men’s match between the schools at 3 p.m.
